summer 2012

sticky.

I hear that a lot about summer days. They're sticky and hot and gross... and we love them!

Summer 2012 is going to be full of sticky days and for youth at JC, chances to figure out what sticky faith looks like.

theme '12: sticky faith

Our theme for summer 2012 - Sticky Faith. From the stickyfaith.org website: By “Sticky Faith” we mean:

1) Faith that is both internalized and externalized: a faith that is part of a student’s inner thoughts and emotions, and is also externalized in choices and actions that reflect that faith commitment.  These behaviors include regular attendance in a church/campus group, prayer and Bible reading, service to others, and lower participation in risk behaviors, in particular, sex and alcohol.  In other words, Sticky Faith involves whole-person life integration, at least to some degree.

2) Faith that is both personal and communal:  a faith that celebrates God’s specific care for each person while always locating faith in the global and local community of the Church.

3) Faith that is both mature and maturing:  a faith that shows marks of spiritual maturity but is also in process of growth.  We don’t assume a high school senior or college freshman (or a youth worker for that matter) will have a completely “mature” faith.  We are all in process.

sticky calendar

We're planning on some sweet 'WOW' events this summer and we wanted to run down the dates for you. Here are our summer's big rock "WOW" events:

JUNE 17 - GET BIG!: Our version of graduation Sunday - 11am. Where our 5th graders move up into 6th-8th grade ministry, 8th graders move into 9th-12th grade ministry, and we celebrate graduating seniors moving on to college or work opportunities. A great celebration!

JUNE 25-29 - MIX CONFERENCE: Best week of summer for middle school youth! A trip to Knoxville, Tennessee to Johnson University to connect with literally thousands of middle schoolers from all over the country all of us trying to connect with God.

JULY 9-14 - MOVE CONFERENCE: A great week of life together with high school students from all over the US getting to know Jesus and each other. At Lee University in Tennessee.

AUGUST 6-13 - MEXICO 2012: One of my favorite weeks of summer, we travel down to San Luis Potosi, Mexico (central Mexico, not on the borders) and spend a week serving and building relationships with kids at an foster home/orphanage in the city.

Make sure your 6th-8th or 9th-12th grader is a part of JC youth ministry's summer 2012! It's going to be sticky... and awesome!
